They never stop at Google. Now, it’s the Writely and Spreadsheets services integration in one.
Now, you can easily, from one URL, using your google account, create, edit, save, share documents “Ã la Word” and spreadsheets “Ã l’Excel”. Who said “and put video in it” ?

When we ask people “What’s Web 2.0 ?” they often answer “Yeah, it’s Ajax, it’s YouTube, …” … funny … I found this answer to simple, too short. Web 2.0 is more a philosophy then (only) a technology (even if technology is used to support Web 2.0).
Tim O’Reilly gives the first Web 2.0 definition. Now a group of people (including Martin Fowler) defines what they call Web 2.0 Patterns.
Here an abstract:
We tried to compile a set of values, along the lines of the Agile Manifesto. The key with the agile values is that is used a “X over Y†format where Y by itself is a fairly reasonable goal. For example, the value is not “Working Software over Broken Software†(duh!) but “Working Software over Comprehensive Documentationâ€. Here are some of our candidates:
* Simplicity over Completeness
* Long tail over Mass Audience
* Share over Protect
* Advertise over Subscribe
* Syndication over Stickiness
* Early Availability over Correctness
* Select by Crowd over Editor
* Honest voice over Corporate Speak
* Participation over Publishing
* Community over Product
This abstract of a Journal Du Net article was reported by Michel de Guilhermier (Photoways founder) in his blog:
“Les dangers du Web 2.0 vont à mon avis se révéler au grand jour. Les sites qui relèvent de ce fameux concept doivent inventer un modèle économique ad hoc. S’ils ne le trouvent pas, nous allons droit à la bulle 2.0. Ils ont abandonné toute idée de faire payer l’utilisateur. On peut le comprendre car les services pour lesquels les internautes sont prêts à payer sont finalement très peu nombreux…”
I agree ! I think that history may repeated it again. People (users) still want a free Internet but we know that it’s not (it was never and it will never be) possible !
The only way ? Advertising ! Again, it’s the actual solution, it was and it will ever be a solution (before a major mentality change).
See Google and it’s actual economic model. 99% of Google revenues are from adverstising … and it works (for the moment).
We have to be carefull my friends !
Google is still expanding all its tentacules around the Web. Now, they are offering a “Flickr killer app” called Picasa Web Albums.
For the moment, you can use PWA only if you got an invitation (I’m waiting mine), but
Once you have an invitation, you’ll be able to download the latest version of Picasa with the web uploading feature. And actually, it’s not just about web uploading — there’s also downloading. We wanted to make sure you can keep enjoying the photos your friends have shared with you. With this in mind, when viewing others’ galleries, you can download an entire album of photos directly into Picasa with just a couple of clicks. For uploading and downloading to and from Picasa Web Albums, you’ll need the new version of Picasa – again, it’s only available to invited users for the time being.
as said in the Google Blog. Also:
Finally, you may be wondering if this costs anything. No, and no hidden fees either. Picasa is free as always, and Picasa Web Albums comes with 250MB of free storage space. That’s enough for approximately 1,000 wallpaper-sized photos at 1600 pixels each. We also offer an easy-to-understand storage upgrade option if you have a whole lot more pictures to share.
250 Mb … enough for testing ? (again something to test)
Flock is a free web browser that makes it easier than ever to share photos, stay up-to-date with news from your favorite sites, and search the Web. Take our tour to learn what’s different about Flock, then download the beta to get started – and please tell us what you think.
Flock — The web browser for you and your friends
Flock Browser Beta 1 has been released and I’m currently testing it. Based on Gecko renderer (in fact, Flock is “Firefox based”), this browser is Web 2.0 oriented.
He is offering several (many) services allowing you to share pictures (through Flickr), share your bookmark (through del.icio.us), read and organize in a smart and really convivial way your RSS feeds, write and publish blog’s post easily (as this post was – comment at the end is an option).
Well, my first impression is … really good ! Enough to make me leave Firefox ? We’ll see.
